Miami Heat Could Round Out 12-Man Roster Next Week with Juwan Howard, Carlos Arroyo, and Jamaal Magloire

Does the Miami Heat Have Enough Supporting Cast Around the Big 3 to Be a Championship Contender?

According to ESPN, the Miami Heat are expected to sign Juwan Howard, Carlos Arroyo, and Jamaal Magloire in what would give the Miami Heat a complete 12-man roster. The Miami Heat would likely sign three
more players to complete their 15-man roster with practice players.
Juwan Howard, 37, and Carlos Arroyo, who'll be 31 to begin the season, are grizzled veterans who'll provide depth and experience behind Chris Bosh and Mario Chalmers. Jamaal Magloire, 32, will return to Miami for a third season. If nothing else, Magloire gives the Heat another big body.

The Miami Heat are expected to pursue James Jones, Keyon Dooling, and Chris Quinn before the season begins. Currently, here is what the 2010-2011 Miami Heat
12-man roster currently looks like

C Zydrunas Ilgauskas / Joel Anthony
PF Chris Bosh
SF LeBron James
SG Dwyane Wade
PG Mario Chalmers
BN Mike Miller
BN Udonis Haslem
BN Juwan Howard
BN Zydrunas Ilgauskas / Joel Anthony
BN Carlos Arroyo
BN Jamaal Magloire
BN Dexter Pittman

Expect Ilgauskas and Anthony to split starting time throughout the season, but I'd expect neither player to get a huge majority of minutes. The Miami Heat should sign at least one more player, demoting Dexter Pittman to a practice player.

Pat Riley has done a respectable job in acquiring role players for the Miami Heat Big 3. Their biggest concerns will be health and post play. With many aging veterans on the bench and Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh having a history of injuries throughout their careers, it's difficult to determine how healthy the Heat will be for the playoffs. An injury to Dwyane Wade would make the Miami Heat similar to LeBron James's former Cavaliers team but with Chris Bosh. An injury to Chris Bosh could doom the Heat to bigger teams like the Orlando Magic, Boston Celtics, or the Los Angeles Lakers.

If the Miami Heat Big 3 remain healthy, the only thing that should prevent them from winning the East... outside of egos... is their post play. Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Juwan Howard are old, Udonis Haslem doesn't have the height to play center, and Joel Anthony is a defensive specialist with limited offensive game.
